Bike Parade

Today the Primary had an activity for the upcoming Pioneer Day. The kids all met at the church with their bikes and decorated them for a parade around the neighborhood. The girls were so excited about being in the parade that they woke up very early at 6:00 a.m. They came into our room and asked if it was time for the parade. They continued coming back every 30 minutes with the same question!

Blake saw the girls having so much fun that when the parade passed him on the side of the road, he ran into the mix and joined the group. He loved it!

How fun! I'm glad to see that Macy got her boot off and was able to ride her bike in the parade!

I didn't think she was ready to ride her bike in the parade and suggested that she could sit in a wagon and have someone pulled her. But she was having none of that!

So she rode her bike while I helped push her along with gentle nudges on her back. Her ankle is still a little too sore to ride all by herself!

I'm so glad to hear that your ward still celebrates the 24th of July in a fun way. Not one word was spoken in Sacrament meeting last Sunday about Pioneer Day. I remember as a child in Primary decorating our wagons and dressing as pioneers and walking around the church block. Those are special memories!!

I'm assuming that post was written by mom, and not dad....because Dad never was in Primary!

What a keen eye, Ems!! Our branch had a picnic for Pioneer Day. It was held at Mormon Coulee Park here, which is named for some of the first settlers in the region (who happened to be Mormons.) They actually shared some stories about the first Mormons here. They came seeking timber (at Joseph Smith's request) for the construction of the Nauvoo temple and other buildings in Nauvoo.
